Ghostwriter's Take on Reality

I was able to chat with a good friend of mine over at YM and the topic which started from me asking for more writing assignments veered off to me being asked about my writing experience. Of course I was proud to say that I was already writing online content since 2007.

However, I was stopped in my thoughts when she asked about me having any published content. All I could say was "I wrote for employers."

Then it struck me...I was just writing for people who just paid me for the dirty work of dishing out their required articles...I even saw a lot of my works published in their websites (of course to which I will not say for privacy issues), with their names attached as authors.

I now felt the void of being. I was a ghostwriter in a state of realization.

Now don't get me wrong. I am not complaining about not being able to publish my works under my name. Besides, I got paid quite well by the several bosses (Boss Dotz, An, Phil, Will, Van, Mikhal) I had shared my works since I started this. I was able to satisfy my need of buying gadgets like my beloved Casio EX-G1 all resistant camera and laptop-slash-tablet PC courtesy of Lenovo (model s10-3t) among others. What actually bothered me was that I had no publications to call my own.

I even chuckled when I saw the irony in my email and saw all the sent items with my attached write ups. The whole list seemed to go on forever and based on my estimate and records, I may have already written about 2 to 4 thousand articles (from technical to creative, academic to promotional). I know this is just a small number as compared to other ghostwriters who commit full time to this profession. Yet, all those works of mine, and not a single one credited to me is simply doing injustice to my identity.

So here I am, just another ghostwriter; a freelancer at that who gets paid for writing up stuffs, setting up this website so I could finally publish my works as my own. Of course I will still continue to be a ghostwriter as it is good money and practice.

I'll just have this blog to officially place my mark as a professional writer.

And to all ghostwriters out there, I salute you.

Cheers!

HI Albert,

I am another ghostwriter for Aus and US clients. I know what you mean.

In an attempt to have "things that I can call my own", I had a second job as a news writer sa Sunstar Davao, kaya lang, "the spirit WAS willing but the flesh IS just too weak."

So ayun, balik ako sa pagiging Ghostwriter.

Hehe,

Rj Nieto
